"Born in 1821, Two Strike (No'p-kalpa) accompanied his first
war party at the age of twelve against the Pawnee. At thirty-one
he led a party against the same tribe and counted coup. Twelve coups,
all of Pawnee, and twenty-two battles. He changed his name from
Living Bear to Two Strike after unhorsing two Pawnee riding the
same animal. After the sixth coup he was declared chief, and, as
others died, gradually ascended to the position of head chief of
the Brule Sioux." -Curtis
